Working with Children:
A Bioenergetic Approach to Play Therapy

Workshop Objective: Participants will learn tools to help children with impulse control, attachment issues and healing trauma, by having more body awareness through play.

Frank Hladky, M.D., is a native Oklahoman, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Medical School, 1946, a Board Certified psychiatrist.  Director of the Tulsa Psychiatric Center from 1963 to 1978, he has been a Bioenergetic therapist for 35 years and has trained therapists in the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America.  He currently lives and works in Coweta, Oklahoma , where he sees clients and continues to offer training and supervision to students of bioenergetics.

Nancy Hazen, M.A., L.M.F.T. first worked with children as a preschool teacher and became a licensed therapist in 1979 in the inner city in Los Angeles.  She met Frank Hladky, MD, in 1983 and moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1984.  Since that time Bioenergetics has increasingly become an integral part of her work with children and their families.  In 1999-2000 she received a grant to work with children and families bioenergetically providing individual, family and group services.  She led “Parents Corner/Kid’s Corner” groups for parents and toddlers and provided “Let’s Be Friends” Groups to prevent peer violence.  She also went to Croatia and worked with children in a camp setting who were displaced victims of the war in Bosnia.  She has always worked in a multi-cultural setting and was the Mental Health consultant for two Northern New Mexico Native American Pueblos for 10 years.  She continues to see children and families in private practice.  Nancy is also certified as a Child Centered  Play Therapist.

6:00 - 7:00 PM: Registration

7:00 - 9:00 PM: Frank Hladky, MD, and Nancy Hazen, MALMFT will present an overview on Working with Children: a Bioenergetic Approach to Play Therapy.

**The Friday Evening event is free to those who are unable to attend the whole workshop.

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

8:30 - 9:00 AM: Registration

9:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Frank and Nancy will present a demonstration and discussion of working with small children and their families, focusing especially on helping children with aggression, impulse control, attachment issues, and tools for healing trauma (i.e. domestic violence and child abuse).  There will be some discussion of the importance of parents, providers and practitioners doing their own work.  There will be a description and toy and prop list for setting up a play room designed to help children release bioenergetically. 

2:00 PM - 5:00 PM:   Frank and Nancy will present a demonstration and discussion of group work with older children and adolescents.  Nancy will discuss various groups such as "Let’s Be Friends" groups and working in school and afterschool settings.

Tuition:
The cost of the workshop is $125.00 in advance. The fee will be $140.00 at the door. Checks should be made payable to Nancy Hazen and mailed to Judy Wilder at 1116 East 35th Place Tulsa, OK 74105.

CEUS:
The Oklaoma State Department of Health Professional Counselor Licensing has approved the workshop for 8 LPC, LMFT CEUs.   We are awaiting approval from the Oklahoma Board of Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors for 8 LADC CEUs.  Arrangements are also underway for LCSW’s in Oklahoma to be able to request approval for 8 CEUs.

Eight CEU's are available for Florida Psychologist, Mental Health Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Workers and Nurses. The State of Florida Continuing Education Provider Numbers: PCE#22 Psychologist, BAP#195 Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapist, NCE#3475 Nurses.
